Conventional wisdom regarding the Illinois Basin (one of the most drilled, mature hydrocarbon basins in the world) is that “the easy oil” has been depleted. The vast majority of Basin wells have been drilled to depths of 6000 feet or less. Untapped potential at 15,000 feet and beyond is now within reach due to advancements in deep drilling technology.
